Natural Homemade Belly Butter

There is nothing better than a wonderful recipe for homemade belly butter, especially if you are a pregnant or postpartum mama that’s looking to spread some love on that beautiful belly. This balm has a calming effect and is great for the skin.  It helps restore and keep skin elastic, which is helpful when you have an expanding belly.

The following recipe for natural homemade belly butter makes 6-7 oz.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 C. Shea Butter
  • 1/4 C. Coconut Oil
  • 2 Tbsp Beeswax Pellets
  • 10 drops Vitamin E
  • 10 drops each Lavender & 5 drops of Frankincense Essential Oils

Directions:

  1. use a double broiler or a glass Pyrex measuring cup set inside a pan of water with 1-2″ of water on the stove, add Coconut Oil and Beeswax Pellets.
  2. Turn on low heat and once it melts, add the Shea Butter.  Don’t heat the Shea for too long because it can become really grainy once it cools. Once all items are melted, then take off the stove (carefully – it’s hot!) and let it sit for 5 minutes.
  3.  Then add 10 drops of Vitamin E, and your essential oils.
  4. Pour into a glass jar and set to the back of the counter and let it rest for a few hours.
  5. It’ll cool into a nice, creamy salve you can rub on your belly several times a day.

Ingredients:

  • 4oz vodka
  • 30-40 drops essential oils
  • (Optional) ⅛tsp capryl glucoside

Equipment:

  • 40z glass spray bottle
  • Small funnel for spray bottles

Eggnog Room Spray

  • 25 drops vanilla oleoresin
  • 10 drops tonka bean absolute
  • 3 drops nutmeg essential oil
  • 3 drops clove essential oil

Christmas Tree Room Spray

  • 20 drops fir needle essential oil
  • 20 drops black spruce essential oil

Instructions:

  1. Before making your holiday room spray, start with clean, sterilized supplies.
  2. Using a small funnel, combine the vodka, essential oils and solubilizer in your spray bottle. Pick your favorite holiday essential oil combo from our recipes above.
  3. Next, replace the lid of your spray bottle and shake the mixture well.
  4. Your Christmas room spray is finished! Shake it again prior to spritzing so that the essential oils remain distributed in your product.

Notes:

  • The vodka helps the holiday scents linger for a long-lasting room spray and will also act as a preservative.
  • Please don't use witch hazel instead of vodka – it does not contain enough alcohol to be effective.
  • Use caution, as dark colored essential oil such as vanilla oleoresin are more likely to stain fabrics, rugs and carpets. Also, take care not to spritz your room spray on, or near wood furniture.

Your skin can still absorb harmful rays from the sun, if you want to protect your skin from sun damage, wrinkles and skin cancer… wear sunscreen. # Beauty & Skin, Body care

The cosmetic industry is load of toxic chemicals in their products. Chemicals include but are not limited to endocrine disruptors, phthalates, propylene, and fragrances. They can cause eye, nose, and throat irritation, kidney and liver damage, hormone disruptors, and cancer. Now, did you know that the skin is our largest organ? our skin absorbs the toxic chemicals, having the same effect as if we had inhaled them or eating them.  To avoid these chemicals, we can opt for non-toxic beauty brands. These brands are transparent with the full list of their ingredients as well as to how a product is made (sustainability, animal testing etc.). Any truly non-toxic cosmetics brand uses only safe chemical or natural ingredients. All ingredients are backed by scientific research, verifying their safety. Since added fragrances (parfum) commonly contain toxic phthalates, non-toxic cosmetics primarily use essential oils as their fragrance. The following illustrations shows non-toxic brands.

# Cleaning

Before we learn recipes to do our own non-toxic cleanings products, but if you are not into doing it or you don’t have time, there are non-toxic cleansing brands that works awesome! Right now, I’m using Branch Basics.

# Oral Care

A balanced oral microbiome is really important as oral disease are linked to systemic disease, including Alzheimer’s, stroke, heart disease, and diabetes. The oral microbiome has a protective component that protects us from viruses and bacteria in the environment. One ingredient to avoid is fluoride. Every time I went to the dentist they applied a gel with fluoride, as I grow up, I always heard that fluoride is to prevent cavities. But! as many other things that professionals says, that’s a total lie. It actually does more harm than good, and I personally avoid it. So, make sure you look for a natural toothpaste one that doesn’t include fluoride, sulfates, or synthetic ingredients like artificial flavors and dyes.

When looking for a mouthwash look for an alcohol-free option. I really like the RiseWell Alkalizing Mouthwash because it helps naturally balance your mouth’s ph.

Oil pulling it’s extremely beneficial. You take either coconut oil or sesame oil and swish it around in your mouth for a few minutes and then spit it out. Basically, it collects all the toxins in your mouth and balances the microbiome. It also whitens your teeth and has a ton of other benefits.

Tongue Scrapping, while we sleep, our body removes toxins and deposits them on our tongue (also why it’s important to oil pull in the morning!). Tongue scraping is also more effective than brushing your tongue with a toothbrush. All you do is gently pull the scraper from the back of your tongue to the front to remove the buildup. The best part is that it literally only takes a few seconds.

The world of natural oral care has come a long way and there are lots of awesome options on the market. Some that I use and recommend:
